Dr. Washington to receive Excellence in Research Award
Dr. Karla Washington was selected as the recipient of the 2017 Award for Excellence in Psychosocial Research from the Social Work Hospice & Palliative Care Network (SWHPN). Dr. Washington was recognized for her exemplary contributions to the field of social work in palliative and end-of-life care. She will receive her award at the 5th Annual SWHPN General Assembly in Scottsdale, Arizona, in February 2017.
Dr. Washington to receive the David Oliver FCM Faculty Award
Dr. Karla Washington is the recipient of the 2016 David B. Oliver Family and Community Medicine Faculty Award. This award, established through the generosity of David Oliver PhD, former Family and Community Medicine faculty member and Deputy Director of the Interdisciplinary Center on Aging who passed away in March 2015, his wife and their children, was created to recognize University of Missouri Faculty members for outstanding work and significant contributions to geriatrics and palliative medicine.
New Grant Award
Dr. Parker Oliver received a federal grant award from the National Cancer Institute for the project “ACCESS for Cancer Caregivers to Education and Support for Shared Decision Making.” Funding is provided for a clinical trial scheduled to run from 2017 to 2021 that will provide unique insight into innovative technology based interventions to support and empower cancer caregivers.
Drs. Debra Parker Oliver and David Oliver Honored
On Oct. 1, 2014 Dr. George Demiris presented “The Evidence Base for Home Health Technologies” at the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council of the National Academies Workshop on the Future of Home Health Care.
HCRN to present clinical trial findings at GSA
Findings from two projects of the Hospice Caregiving Research Network will be presented at this year’s Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting on Saturday Nov. 8, 2014 as part of the symposium entitled “Family Caregiving: Reporting on Clinical Trials in Nursing Homes and Home Hospice.”
